NWFP government taking steps to rehabilitate flood victims

05 Jul, 2005

NWFP Minister for Industries, Labour, Law & Parliamentary Affairs, Malik Zafar Azam has said that provincial government is not oblivious of its responsibilities and has been taking all possible measures to help and rehabilitate the flood victims. He advised Federal Minister Aftab Sherpao to supplement provincial government's efforts for flood victims and avoid gaining political mileage out of flood issue, which, he said, being a purely humanitarian one, needed to be tackled through collective and sincere efforts.
Sharply reacting to the statement of the Federal Minister Aftab Sherpao, wherein he alleged that NWFP government was doing nothing for the flood victims, Malik Zafar Azam said that recent floods have proved the fact that Kalabagh Dam project was not in the interest of the province. Headded that it was enough to open the eyes of the pro-Kalabagh Dam federal minister.
He added that provincial government was in close contact with federal government to help the flood victims in this hour of distress and Sherpao Sahib, representing the province in federation should use his good offices to rehabilitate the flood victims and desist from making political scores by politicising the issue.
He further said that provincial government, within its meagre resources, is taking all possible measures for the assistance and rehabilitation of flood victims while "Jawans" of Pak Army were busy day and night in rescue operations. Provincial chief minister has also constituted a two members cabinet committee to supervise relief activities, he concluded.
