CBR looking for research scholars, tech experts

05 Jul, 2005

After appointing CBR Members from the private sector, the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has now decided to hire 'research scholars' and 'technical experts' from open market to conduct research and analysis and IT-related work. The tax authorities have empowered Member Fiscal Research and Statistics (FRS) and Member Information Management System (IMS) to hire research scholars and IT experts, respectively, from the open market.
Official sources told this correspondent on Monday that the CBR Chairman Adbullah Yusuf has emphasised the importance of Research and Development for all Tax Wings in CBR. The Member (FR & S) pointed out the difficulties in getting qualified Research staff. It was decided that initially the Member (FR & S) would try to acquire the qualified officers for research from the Board, against specific pay positions as per the requirement of the Wing. The Research Scholars may also be hired from open market (on contract) or on deputation basis for specific period for Research and Development.
They pointed out that the Member, IMS, admitted difficulties in getting technical staff from within CBR for proper handling of IT related projects. He proposed only one position of BS-17/18 from CBR for co-ordination purpose. The other positions would be filled from external resources. It was decided that, in the first instance, Member IMS will determine actual requirement of officers and will try to get them from within CBR. If such expertise is not available, the technical staff may be acquired form PRAL/open market.
