Pakistan telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) Senior Executive Vice President (Operations) Shakoor Hussain on Saturday expressed hope that submarine optic fiber cable problems would be rectified with in two days. Speaking in PTV programme 'News Morning', he said special ship coming from Dubai would undertake repair work of submarine optic fiber cable which would hopefully be completed within two days.
In order to address such situation in future, PTCL has undertaken partnership in another cable SEA-ME-WE-4, which would be passing through this area SEA-ME-WE-3 consortium, he added.
He said PTCL has invested dollars 40 million particularly in consortium and that cable would be ready in October this year. Shakoor Hussain further said government had granted permission to replace cable laid down between Pakistan and India in 1986.
Both the countries have signed MoU to start replacement work of the cable from their own sides, he added. He said Pakistan has already started to replace cable from its side. The replacement of cable between the two countries would provide alternate route to Pakistan in future. He said that in future the country would never face such a problem as work on three different projects was in progress.
To resolve the issue in short terms, he said PTCL immediately provided satellites backup bandwidth.
Presently the consumers were facing only a problem of low speed by this connectivity, he added.
To a question, he said for the first time the problems occurred since the SEA-ME-WE-3 cable was commissioned five or six years ago.
