Zero sales tax on 'infusion set'

28 Jun, 2005

The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) will levy zero-percent sales tax on import and supply of 'infusion set', covered under surgical instruments. The CBR has given this assurance to surgical instruments industry here on Monday during a meeting on the zero-rating of sales tax. The industry had informed the CBR that custom officials at the ports were creating hurdles in the clearance of the 'infusion set' meant for children.
However, the CBR has given assurance to the industry that all surgical instrument items would be covered under the zero-rating regime. Under the recently issued SRO, the surgical goods falling under respective headings are liable to sales tax at the rate of zero-percent.
The industry also contended that infusion sets (Pediatric) were not liable to sales tax under the zero-rating regime, which was endorsed by the tax officials.
