37 channels to be on air this month: minister

Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said 37 different channels would be on air this month, including those meant exclusively for women. Speaking at the book launching ceremony of "Kaash Main Siyaasat Mein Na Aata" by a former politician Khalil Ahmed Nainitalwala here on Saturday, he said in an era where book reading culture is fast diminishing, electronic media is emerging as an available combination of information and entertainment. Mentioning that vistas of development and progress could be witnessed in the country in the fast approaching new fiscal year, he said, we as a nation ought to cherish and make optimum use of endowments.
Referring to the title of the book, penned by a politician, who a few years back also held the portfolio of provincial information advisor, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said politics is for service to the masses and it is on this basis that individuals even with humble background do reach the higher echelons of policy-making.
The ceremony was presided by former Sindh governor Lieutenant General Moinuddin Haider (Retd). Senior journalist Sajjad Mir, Munir Hussain, besides Tahir A. Khan from the advertising world, Sardar Mohammed Yasin Malik and others also spoke on the occasion.
