08 Dec, 2004

For the first time a representative of Pakistan's business community has been nominated on the advisory committee of Asian Invest Forum of the European Commission. Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Vice-President Haroon Rashid, who is to represent Pakistan, is among the six persons from Asia.
The committee provides assistance to private sector business development organisations to facilitate mutually beneficial partnerships between companies in Europe and Asia, as well as to strengthen the conditions aimed at increasing trade and investment flows between the two regions.
Haroon Rashid recently attended the meeting of the advisory committee held in Brussels that discussed several projects from the Asian countries for co-financing.
The committee will concentrate on projects for developing institutional capacity building and networking in Asia through transfer of technology, human resource development, business familiarisation, information linkages and training of business organisations to make them better equipped to serve local businesses and facilitate trade with the European Union. Haroon Rasid said that the research directorate of FPCCI would examine projects from Pakistani entrepreneurs for seeking financial assistance under this programme.
