South Korea June producer prices fall at slowest pace in 1-1/2 years

SEOUL: South Korea's producer prices in June fell at their slowest annual pace in 1-1/2 years, central bank data showed on Tuesday, helped mainly by a slower decline in prices for industrial goods.

The producer price index in June dropped 2.7 percent from a year earlier, extending a falling streak that started in August 2014, the Bank of Korea said. It was the slowest decline since December 2014 and compared with a revised 3.0 fall in May.

Most of the sub-indices showed little change from the previous month. Industrial goods producer prices fell 4.8 percent in June on-year, compared with a 5.2 percent decline in May and helped temper the headline fall.

In monthly terms, the index rose 0.2 percent in June, a slight pick-up from a revised 0.1 percent gain in May.
