Pilot phase of new poverty survey to be launched soon

ISLAMABAD: The pilot phase of new poverty survey of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) would be launched soon on latest technology and every deserving woman would be part of the updated National Socio Economic Registry (NSER).

The two-survey approaches i.e. Door-to-Door-Approach and Desk-Approach (Self-registration) are being employed in the 16 pilot phase districts to establish value for money.

Both the approaches will facilitate in the decision regarding the approach to be adopted in national rollout for 2017-18, official sources told APP.

He informed that to ensure transparency and accountability they have decided to replace the Part-VIII (Code of Conduct) of BISP Employees Service Regulations with Government Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 1973 till the institutionalization of BISP's own Regulations.

This measure has been taken to ensure that BISP can take strict action against corruption and take tighter disciplinary action against its own employees.

He informed that BISP was playing a vital role in poverty alleviation and women empowerment, adding that its main purpose was to make women courageous and self sufficient to become able to handle any adverse situation without any fear and panic.

Empowerment of women can help eliminate poverty in the region, he commented.

He said BISP was sincere in its efforts to eradicate poverty and committed to provide financial assistance to the deserving families all across the country.
