LAHORE: An accountability court on Friday handed over five accused involved in a Rs 50 million land compensation fraud case to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on a ten-day physical remand.

Earlier, the NAB officials produced the accused including retired Brig Muhammad Arif Khan, Ali Abbas, Nasim Abbas, Sohaib Arshad and Atif Rashid before Accountability Court Judge Najam ul Hassan Gillani.

The investigation officer submitted that Brig (R) Arif in connivance with others fraudulently withdrew Rs 54 million from the funds of project ? Defence Canal Road ? through bogus/fake vouchers by fabricating the documents pertaining to irrelevant Khasra numbers which were neither the part of the land acquired for the project nor was included in award. He pleaded the court to grant 15 days physical remand of the accused for investigation.

However, the counsel for accused opposed the request for remand saying that all allegations levelled against the accused were fake.

At this, the court handed over the accused to NAB on ten-day physical remand and directed to produce them again on expiry of the remand period.

The NAB authorities arrested the accused on Thursday from provincial metropolis.
