The acting president of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), Qazi Hussain Ahmed, was sent back to Peshawar from Karachi airport by the Sindh government, on Sunday.
He arrived here on Sunday afternoon by PIA flight PK-351 from Peshawar at 1330 hours.
The Airport Security Force (ASF) detained Qazi Hussain at Jinnah International Airport and later sent him back at 1500 hours.
A large number of MMA workers had gathered at the airport to receive the MMA leader. Later they dispersed peacefully on hearing the news of Qazi's departure.
The MMA spokesman in Karachi, Sarfraz Ahmed said that over 500 workers, including its senior leader Syed Munawwar Hassan had also been arrested.
Later, in an emergency press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq, MMA Senator Prof. Ghafoor Ahmed said that the city police have arrested about 3,500 alliance workers in last two days.
He demanded immediate removal of 'Governor of Sindh' and alleged him that Ishratul Ibad was responsible for all these activities being carried out through the police.
Prof. Ghafoor said that the purpose of 'Section 144' is to prevent any untoward activities and it did not apply on activities meant for peace.
The city police have targeted our workers in last two days and arrested them from their residences, which is not acceptable to MMA, he added.
