The United States on Friday described as 'positive' and 'important' the "now regular pattern of engagement of dialogue, of reciprocal steps, of confidence-building measures", by Pakistan and India to normalise relations.
Adam Ereli, the deputy spokesman for the State Department, stated this in response to a question by APP at the Foreign Press Center (FPC) on 'US foreign policy'.
As to what was the US expectation of the bilateral talks, Adam Ereli said: "What we're seeing is the regularisation of something that only a few years ago was historic and ground-breaking", adding Pakistan and India had held bilateral dialogue this month, and would pursue it again on June 27 and 28.
Ereli said: "We're seeing a now regular pattern of engagement of dialogue, of reciprocal steps, of confidence-building measures between two countries that not so long ago, were at the point of confrontation", adding: "Through wise and forward-looking leadership, Pakistan and India have taken steps to meet the concerns of each other, and find ways to develop systems and procedures that normalise relations."
"And this is welcome, this is positive, this is important not only for the two countries, but for the well-being of the entire region", the spokesman said.
