Frequent power failures spark violence

13 Jun, 2004

Repeated and prolong load shedding turned the enraged KESC consumers violent on Saturday.
Residents of Liaquatabad, who braved more than eight hours power outage, took to the streets and protested against the KESC. They chanted anti-KESC slogans, burned tyres and pelted stones.
Keeping in view the deteriorating law and order situation, the local administration called in Rangers to control the situation.
Besides Liaquatabad, a large number of complaints about repeated interruption in power supply from various localities of the city, including North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Nazimabad and other parts of city were also received where citizens continued to suffer from prolonged power failures.
People from different parts of the city complained that despite their repeated calls to the KESC's complaint centers, no one bothered to address the problem.
