AWRP demands increase in pension

29 May, 2004

Association for Welfare of Retired Persons (AWRP) on Friday demanded the increase in pension equivalent to the relief being given to the serving government employees in the forthcoming budget.
President AWRP, Abdul Majid Mufti in a letter to Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, said that government was considering to increase the salaries of serving government employees in the coming budget while in the past pension had simultaneously been increased with the increase in the salaries of serving servicemen.
He said the principle of making increase in pension along with salary was very well established and the case of pensioners, at the moment, was even more deserving.
The President, he said had already indicated that pensioners would be given equivalent relief.
Meanwhile, in its Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) on April 26, the AWRP unanimously passed a resolution in which it welcomed recent announcement by the president that the emoluments of serving government servants would be increased in the coming budget and equivalent relief would be provided to the pensioners.
