Pakistan to import Indian tea

Indian Tea Association (ITA) and Pakistan Tea Association (PTA) have signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to ensure that tea imports from India reach a level of 25 million kg over the period 2004-05 to 2006-07.
The MoU was signed during the recent visit of Indian tea delegation which says:
-- The ITA shall take appropriate steps to render assistance to producers in India to facilitate Tea export to Pakistan.
-- The PTA shall take similar steps to render assistance to the tea trade in Pakistan towards facilitation of imports of tea from India.
-- The ITA shall ensure that its members address the task of reducing costs towards supplying suitable quantity of tea to Pakistan at international competitive prices.
-- The PTA shall, subject to competitiveness of price and quality, ensure that tea imports from India reach a level of 25 million kg over the period 2004-05 to 2006-07.
-- The PTA and ITA will jointly take up and pursue with their respective governments towards inclusion of tea imports into Pakistan within the framework of a preferential/ free trade agreement between the two countries.
-- The PTA and ITA will exchange relevant information in terms of production , exports, imports and prices of tea etc.
-- The PTA and ITA shall facilitate regular visits of buyers and sellers between the two countries.
-- Any dispute shall be mutually steeled among the members of the Pakistan Tea Association and the India Tea Association.
