Farmers criticise irrigation officials

Farmers from southern Punjab have complained of high-handedness of irrigation officials in their region, especially in District Rahim Yar Khan.
They voiced their grievances during the Kissan Welfare Council (KWC) meeting at Pattoki, which was presided over by the Council's President Chaudhry M. Ayub, disclosed a Council's spokesman here on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by a large number of farmers from throughout the province.
The farmers alleged that irrigation official Superintending Engineer Niazi was involved in corruption by fleecing the poor farmers, and he has made millions of rupees and was not relieving his charge despite his transfer orders.
