PIA to expand Speedex courier network

21 May, 2004

PIA will expand the network of its Speedex courier to 61 cities of the country by end of June 2004. Currently, it is serving in 14 big cities of Pakistan.
This was stated by Project In-charge Speed-ex Imran Aslam while speaking to Speed-ex courier agents of Lahore region.
Imran informed them that PIA is also launching courier services to international destinations in June this year and it would be the only courier company in Pakistan providing overnight service to most of the international points, including USA and UK.
This would be made possible by leveraging PIA's vast international network, he pointed out.
He also unveiled plans to migrate Speed-ex from the present bar-code/scanner booking system to cutting edge technology of handheld PDI devices, which would enable couriers to print airway bills in the field.
This would create a paperless environment and reduce duplication of work while providing the Speed-ex customer 'real time' access to parcel tracking and other critical data.
Kashif Zia, GM, System Support, discussed the issue pertaining to the booking system and noted down various problems being faced by the agents.
The agents on this occasion appreciated the assistance extended to them by Territory Manager Ghazanfar Bashir and his team.
Earlier, Tariq Yasin, Regional Manager Lahore, in his welcome address gave a brief overview of the services and informed the participants about the launching of Sialkot station. PIA senior officials and a large number of courier agents attended the meeting.
