Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Internet City for setting up a modern and high-tech park in Pakistan.
The MoU was signed at an impressive ceremony at the Dubai Internet City in Dubai, where Federal Minister for Information Technology Awais Leghari and senior officials of the Dubai Internet City were also present.
Dr Omar Bin Sulaiman, CEO of Dubai Internet City and Dr Aamir Matin, Managing Director PSEB signed MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Under the MoU, Dubai Internet City and PSEB will jointly explore the possibility of setting up a technology park in Pakistan.
The two organisations will jointly commit resources in examining the feasibility of the project.
The Pakistan Software Export Board is the government agency responsible for facilitating the development of the local IT industry by extending all possible help to prospective foreign and domestic investors and to software companies operating in Pakistan.Speaking at the occasion, Federal Minister for Information Technology Awais Leghari said he was confident that this MoU would help spur the growth of IT and IT-enabled services industry in the country.
"Pakistan has seen a very rapid growth in the IT-enabled sector over the past year or so, and the government is committed to provide right incentives to ensure that the growth is sustained and get accelerated," he said.
The Minister said the incentives government had offered to investors included exemption from corporate taxes, subsidised training programmes for developing human resources for the industry, and assisting companies in obtaining quality certifications.
Dr Omar Bin Sulaiman, CEO of Dubai Internet City said Pakistan's IT industry has shown considerable promise over the last few years.
"We are looking at the feasibility of setting up a business park that will both add value to the Pakistani industry as well as boost our efforts to accelerate IT growth in the region," he added.-PR
