LHC's directive to DPO Faisalabad

09 May, 2004

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the District Police Officer (DPO) Faisalabad to look into the grievances of the petitioner, Yaqoob, a member of the Pakistan Gospel Assemblies.
The court also directed to hold an inquiry into the allegations of high-handedness of police functionaries and hold them accountable if any wrong act is established.
The court, while disposing of the petition, directed the Additional Advocate General Punjab to convey court orders to the DPO Faisalabad.
The petitioner, through his counsel Syed Manzoor Ali Gillani, contended that he is engaged in preaching strictly in accordance with the dictates of the religion. He said that respondent Javed Albert did not want the petitioner to perform his religious obligations in Faisalabad.
The court, after hearing the petitioner's counsel at length, disposed of the petition with necessary directions to the respondents.
