PCDMA submits budget proposals to CBR member

During the visit of Shahid Ahmed, Member, Sales Tax, CBR, to Karachi on Tuesday, Abdul Rahim Chughtai, Chairman of Pakistan Chemicals and Dyes Merchants' Association (PCDMA), led a delegation to visit the former at Sales Tax House to present PCDMA budget proposals and discussed other sales tax matters of chemicals and dyes business community's interest.
Collector Sales Tax Enforcement Khawaja Tanveer Ahmed and Collector Sales Tax Audit Nisar Mohammed assisted Shahid Ahmed.
The PCDMA delegation consisted of Vice-Chairman Shaukat Hussain Convener Sales Tax Sub-Committee Nasiruddin Fateh, Market Leader Ajaz Ellahi Magoon, ex-Chairmen and advisers of the Association.
Chughtai presented budget proposal to CBR member for 2004-05 budget.
Acknowledging the continued co-operation and vital support in deletion of PCDMA members from suspected/suspended units list and other sales tax matters, the chairman presented letters of appreciation for all the three sales tax collectors at Karachi including Suhail Afzal (Headquarters), Khawaja Tanveer Ahmed (Enforcement) and Mohammad Nisar (Audit).
The delegation also discussed matters regarding verification of invoices being sent on Sales Tax Automated Retail Repository (STARR) list. The member sales tax agreed to stop the practice.
Upon the delegation's request for issuance of audit certificate, it was agreed to issue the same to the importer whose audit has been completed for specific period.
Favourable consideration of delegation's request to waive penalty of Rs 5,000 on late submission of returns was assured in case of genuine reason.
Value-addition matters, reduction of further tax from 3 percent to 1 percent, sales tax refund of short-landed cargo after payment of sales tax, leakage and damage causing shortage at port or at warehouses, claim of input on Duty Tax Remission on Export (DTRE) supplies cases were also discussed and a it was agreed that PCDMA budget proposals be submitted in a separate letter for inclusion in the sales tax section.
