Unplanned excavation on Talpur Road

20 Apr, 2004

For the last one month, work in offices and export-related warehouses located on Talpur Road (between Old Queens Road. and I. I. Chundrigar Road.) has come to almost a virtual stop because of unplanned excavation and digging of the road.
The work seems to have been given to a contractor who lacks professional skills, as the entire road has been dug up without any planning and has been totally inaccessible to vehicular traffic for the last two months.
Office and warehouse owners are forced to park their cars on the main road and have to climb over mounds of heaped up mud that has been dumped on the road. Exporters are worst hit, as it has become impossible for them to load their containers, as they cannot enter the road and the cargo has to be carted by trolleys to the containers.
Due to haphazard planning, the offices in the area have been without water or drainage system for the last two months. Owners of offices and export warehouses located in the area have complained to the City District Government and have demanded that action must be taken against the contractor, so that the road is accessible to containers and vehicular traffic and water and sewerage lines are restored.
Unfortunately, the City Government has failed to take any action so far and exporters and the office owners and office workers continue to suffer.
