Wheat procurement drive in full swing

The wheat procurement drive is in full swing under the supervision of Food Department. A target to procure 500,000 tonnes of wheat has been fixed for Faisalabad region during this season and so far a total quantity of 25,688 tonnes of wheat has been procured at different centres.
This was informed by Deputy Director Food, Rana Saeed Ahmad Khan during a briefing.
He said that during the last few days 18480 tonnes from 18 centres of district Jhang, 5671 tonnes from 11 centres of district Faisalabad and 1537 tonnes of wheat had been procured at six centres of Toba Tek Singh District.
He said that in the light of the Government's instructions a very easy procedure had been adopted for the issuance of gunny bags to facilitate the wheat-growers and so far a total number of 983,472 gunny bags had been distributed among them.
In district Faisalabad, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh 168786, 708364 and 106320 gunny bags respectively had been provided to the farmers.
The Deputy Director said that during the last year a target of procuring 350,000 tonnes of wheat from this region was fixed by the Punjab government, which was achieved by making sincere efforts and working with a missionary zeal.
In view of last year's praise-worthy performance the target of this season had been enhanced by 150,000 tonnes and for achieving that target no stone would be left unturned, he said.
