Terming globalisation as a serious threat to the people of South Asia, renowned lawyer and human rights activist, Abid Hasan Minto has called upon the people of the region to rise to the occasion to foil the deep rooted conspiracy hatched against them.
Addressing a reception hosted in his honour by Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) at local press club on Friday, Minto maintained that globalisation is a 'menace' which is ready to hit the people across the world particularly of developing and poor countries.
President PUJ Bakhtgir Chaudhry, Secretary General Jalil Hasan Akhtar Raja, President Lahore Press Club Arshad Ansari, I.H. Rashid, Salman Raja advocate, Rab Nawaz Bajwa, Tassawar Raza, Aziz Mazhar and others also spoke on the occasion.
They appreciated the services being rendered by Abid Hasan Minto for the cause of oppressed people.
Criticising policies introduced by economic managers of Pakistan, Abid claimed it appears that they are bent upon to convert the country's economy in to 'consumer economy' to fulfil the needs of a particular segment of society.
He was of the view that no concrete efforts were made to bring technology in the country so as to give a boost to industry as well as checking poverty alleviation.
In the aftermath of globalisation, there will be difficult time for poor people, he said. He also vowed to extend all out co-operation to journalist's community in it's cause.
