Hearing put off

13 Apr, 2004

The Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned the proceedings to April 17 in an election petition against Punjab Assembly Speaker Afzal Sahi as he obtained stay from a division bench of the august court.
The petitioner, Haji Liaqat, while challenging the election of Afzal Sahi prayed to the court to declare his election null and void, and direct the respondent, Election Commissioner, to hold fresh elections in the constituency.
The petitioner alleged that the respondent rigged his elections, and used district administration to get success, saying the respondent harassed his supports, and did not allow them to go to the polling stations.
