11 Apr, 2004

Punjab Minister for Women Development & Human Rights Ahifa Fatiana has said that the government is committed to provide equal opportunities to women in all spheres of life.
She said this while addressing an awareness programme on 'Code of Conduct for Gender Justice at the Workplace', organised by Working Women Organisation (WWO) in collaboration with Skill Development Centre (SDC) and Workers-Employers Bilateral Council (WEBCOP) here on Saturday.
She maintained that the government is well aware of the problems being faced by working women at workplace and is taking necessary steps to ensure congenial atmosphere for them.
Other speakers maintained that sexual harassment at workplace is the most common form of gender discrimination faced by women.
They said: "Sexual harassment not only negates the basic fundamental rights of the women, but also restricts them to take an active and effective participation in the society according to the fullest of their potentials and capabilities."
WWO president Rubina Jamil, Gulzar Ahmed Chaudhry of All Pakistan Trade Unions Federation also spoke on the occasion.
