Punjab chief minister orders expurgation of unsavoury material from textbooks

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi has ordered Punjab Textbook Board to expurgate all objectionable and unsavoury material from text books prepared for different academic courses.
He gave these instructions in a high-level meeting held here on Saturday.
Addressing the meeting, Pervaiz ordered the authorities concerned to halt further distribution of already printed books, apart from ceasing publication of all such books containing undesirable material.
He also directed the Punjab education department to take immediate steps for correction of already distributed books through teachers.
It was decided in the meeting to include word 'Razi-Allah Tala-Unho' and Rehmat-Ullah-Alleih' against the names of Holy 'Sahaba' and other renowned personalities of Islamic history.
The chief minister ordered formulation of an inquiry committee to identify responsible persons for inclusion of such errors and objectionable material into the textbooks so that guilty ones could be robustly proceeded against.
He also ordered the committee to submit report in this regard within a period of one-week.
