Punjab Auqaf department to hold Ulema convention

Punjab Auqaf Minister, Sahibzada Saeedul Hassan Shah on Monday said that universities would be set up after the names of great mystic saints of the Punjab.
Addressing a press conference here this afternoon, he said Ali Hajveri, Baba Fariduddin Masood Gunj Shakar, Hazrat Imam Aliul Haq, Hazrat Bahauddin Zakaryia Multani and Hazrat Khawaja Ghulatn Farid of Mithankot had rendered invaluable services for the promotion of Islam and Islamic teachings in this part of the country.
He said the department wanted to establish one university after the name of each mystic saint and added that work in this regards is under way.
He said Auqaf department, in pursuance of the directive of the Punjab Chief Minister would convene an Ulema's convention.
He said that arrangements for holding an Ulema and Mashaikh convention were being made.
The minister said that annual income of the department was Rs 376.187 million. The major chunk was being spent on development projects. He said that the department had just completed several projects at a cost of Rs 80 million.
He said Auqaf department had initiated a new project to build ten Quran Mahals in various cities of the province to safeguard the old copies of the Holy Quran.
