04 Apr, 2004

The NWFP chapter's Tehrik-e-Istiqlal, Pakistan (TIP) has demanded the holding of direct elections for the district and town Nazims in next local bodies polls, while opposing one year extension in the present set-up of the local governments in the country.
The demand was made by the NWFP chapter party's president, Farhad Ali Khan here on Friday, while addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club (PPC).
Demanding the announcement of prior-election schedule of the local government, he called for fixation of honoraria for the women and general councillors at any level of the system.
He said that lack of honoraria always become a cause of failure of the system and also promoted corruption.
