23 Mar, 2004

The Hong Kong dollar eased on Monday but moved off morning lows as some players stepped to the sidelines awaiting the next development in Taiwan's political stand-off.
"There was moderate buying interest for the USD against the local unit in early trade on concerns over the political crisis in Taiwan, but then there was lack of follow-through action.
The Hong Kong unit hit an intraday low of 7.7938/40 per US dollar in early morning trade before shuffling between 7.7930 and 7.7934 in the afternoon.
It was at 7.7930/32 slightly weaker than 7.7923/25 in late Asian trade on Friday.
