Sialkot exporters seek government support

11 Mar, 2004

The exporters of Sialkot need co-operation, help and support of the government through special incentives to cope with the ever-increasing competitiveness in the international markets, as above 99 percent of total industrial production in Sialkot was meant for exports.
This was stated by the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President, Tahir Majeed Kapur while talking to the newsmen here, on Wednesday.
He said that the Sialkot's exporters community had always been vigilant of its role for earning foreign exchange for boosting the national economy, but it definitely needs government's support.
He said that it is imperative that 'one window operation' should be made applicable for revenue collection by clubbing various federal and provincial taxes like EOBI, workers welfare fund, children education fees etc. He said that a fixed percentage, determined mutually with the consent of other trade bodies on the total turn over of the industry, might be charged for this purpose. In this way all the work force of the industry would be fully concerned and issues concerning sub contractors would also be resolved and it would also raise the government revenues by reducing various departments.
Kapur said that delay in refund of duty draw back and sales tax was a big problem, being faced by the exporters, due to which their exports were badly affected.
It would greatly help the exporters if the duty draw back claims and sales tax refund claims were being given to them as per the rules on proper time, he added.
