Jica team arrives to identify areas for Japanese aid

A two-member study team of Japan International Co-operation Agency (Jica) arrived here on Thursday to identify the areas in Agriculture sector, which could be improved with the technical and financial assistance of Japan.
The Jica team comprises Akihiko an Agronomist, Sasaki and an Agriculture Economist, Yuichi Fukasaka held meeting with the Director General, Agriculture Extension and Research, Malik Mohammad Akram and heads of various disciplines of agriculture.
They collected the production data of various crops, organisation chart of Agriculture Department, research, farm economy, financial backup, methods of transfer of technology and research findings to farmers.
Earlier, they held a detail meeting with Additional Chief Secretary, Provincial Secretaries of Agriculture and irrigation at Karachi.
Talking to Business Recorder, one of the team members said that they are on mission to identify the areas in agriculture sector of all the four provinces, which could be developed.
He said they are focussing on as how to educate the farming community in farm management, modern cultivation technologies as well as transfer of research findings at their doorsteps.
The member said they would submit their report to Government of Japan to help improve the identified areas in agriculture.
