Government focussing on poverty alleviation and community welfare

The present government is focussing on poverty alleviation and community welfare projects as no governmental efforts towards strengthening of economy could succeed without improving the living standard of people.
The District Nazim Lahore, Mian Aamir Mahmood, stated this while inaugurating a new block, 'Ahmad Block', at Fountain House here on Saturday.
It may be mentioned that the Fountain House is the only institution in the private sector which is extending free medical facilities to a large number of schizophrenic male and female patients.
Aamir maintained that the present government has taken various steps for the rehabilitation of special children so that they could become useful citizens. He added that the government is paying special attention to promotion of education and public welfare schemes.
In this regard, he acknowledged the role of NGOs, especially for the cause of mentally ill and special children.
He stated that the City District Government has allocated substantial funds for improving the standard of educational institutions, apart from handing over CDG schools to NGOs in a bid to promote education, which is a must for the development of any nation.
He assured all out co-operation to the management of Fountain House for the rehabilitation of mentally ill people. He announced that the CDG would donate a Van to the House.
Meanwhile, Executive Director Fountain House and renowned psychiatrist, Professor Dr Haroon Rashid Chaudhry, while delivering a lecture on the topic of 'Happiness is Around You' at Hamiyat-e-Islam College here on Saturday said that people could attain happiness by adopting positive approach and getting forgotten pleasure.
He was of the view that forgiveness and extending help to others are steps which could provide calmness to a person.
He said that people should not loose heart in difficult time and concentrate on attainment of pleasure through good deeds. Be friendly approach with others is key to success, he said.
He urged the teachers to encourage their students so that with strong conviction they could become a useful part of society. He was of the opinion that offering prayers, reciting Holy Quran, healthy activities like reading books, playing different games are sources of getting pleasure.
The former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Dr Nasim Hassan Shah, said that there is need for promoting positive activities in the society.
Singer cum social worker Surriya Khanum, Filmstar Ali Ijaz and others also spoke on the occasion.
