Internet services company Yahoo Inc on Wednesday launched an enhanced version of its instant messenger service to run on PCS Vision mobile telephones from partner Sprint Corp.
The new mobile service, which is a downloadable Java-based application, allows Yahoo messenger users to see who else is online, send and receive messages and carry on multiple conversations at once, among other things.
"We're improving the user experience with our mobile services and products," said Doug Garland, Yahoo's senior vice president of broadband and mobile services.
Sunnyvale, California-based Yahoo operates the Internet's most-visited site and recently has seen its revenues rise, fuelled by acquisitions and the launch of premium services.
The company has been delivering a variety of mobile services with Sprint since 1999.
