Brazil is seeking to increase its soluble, or instant, coffee export quota to the European Union to take account of the EU's eastward enlargement, the Valor Economico newspaper said on Wednesday.
Brazil wants a 9 percent increase in the 15-nation bloc's 14,000 tonnes duty free soluble coffee quota, Valor added.
Brazilian government and coffee export officials were not immediately available for comment.
Brazil, the world's No 1 coffee exporter, ships mainly green, or unprocessed coffee.
Brazil's Soluble Coffee Industry Association (Abics) forecast soluble coffee exports rising 5.8 percent to 3.1 million 60-kg bags of green coffee equivalent in 2004, from 2.8 million bags in 2003.
It compares with a forecast eight percent rise in Brazilian green coffee exports to 24.5 million bags in 2004.
