08 Feb, 2004

Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Home Affairs Aftab Ahmed Shaikh has held out an assurance that justice would be provided to the families of the youths of Kalakot, Karachi and Mehrab Pur, Naushero Feroze, who were allegedly killed by police torture during their custody.
He gave this assurance in a meeting with a delegation of Sindh-Balochistan Bus/Coach Owners Association, which, led by its chairman Attaullah Ahmed, called on the Advisor at his office on Saturday.
They apprised the Advisor of the alleged excesses being meted out to transporters and other people by the Kalakot police. They also referred to the killing of one Yousuf in this police station.
They informed the Advisor that the SHO of Kalakot police station, along with a dozen of other police personnel, recently raided the central office of the association on the pretext of searching its premises and misbehaved with its chairman and other office-bearers. They also alleged that the SHO often puts demands before them.
The transporters threatened to observe a countrywide wheel-jam strike on 10th February if the SHO was not transferred.
The Advisor has called at his office the TPO Lyari, SHO Kalakot, DPO Naushero Feroze, SHO Mehrab Pur and ASI Faiz Muhammad.
The members of the delegation are also invited on February 9 at the Advisor's office.
