Russia bans poultry from more states

27 Jan, 2004

Russia has added Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand and Taiwan to the list of countries from which it had suspended imports of poultry for fear of bird flu, the Agriculture Ministry said on Monday.
A ministry spokeswoman could not say whether Russia had imported poultry from these countries.
On Friday, the ministry said it had suspended poultry exports from Vietnam, Japan and South Korea and was ready to extend the ban to Thailand over the deadly disease fear. It said there had been practically no poultry imports from those states.
On Monday, Thailand confirmed its first human death from bird flu and said it had 10 other suspected cases of the disease. The disease has killed six Vietnamese.
