25 Jan, 2004

The hearing in the All Pakistan Newspaper Society's (APNS) petition against the law relating to the conditions of service of newspaper employees before the Supreme Court has been rescheduled from January 29 to February 11 next.
A notice served on the counsel of the parties and the Attorney General from the court associate on Saturday set the new date.
The change has been necessitated as the APNS lead lawyer Abdul Hafeez Pirzada is not expected to return here from abroad before the first week of next month. Pirzada has gone abroad for treatment.
The first bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui is seized with the petition.
It has to decide on the maintainability of the APNS plea and if it admits the petition then according to a ruling by the former Chief Justice Sheikh Riaz Ahmed, the petition will go before a larger bench for regular hearings.
