Rs 85 million allocated for FG schools

The director-general, Federal Directorate of Education, Islamabad, Brig Maqsud-ul-Hassan (Retd), said that Rs 85 million was allocated by the government to improve the infrastructure of the Federal Government schools.
He was addressing at the ceremony of Inter-zonal Prize Distribution-2003, Federal Government Educational Institutes, Islamabad, here on Monday at FG Girls Model School (FGGMS), at F-7/2, Islamabad.
Maqsud said there is lack of teachers in FG schools and the Federal Directorate of Education is trying its best to appoint 500 teachers, who would join their services by the March-end.
However, the teachers, who are working on contract basis in various schools, their contract would be extended up to November so that their two years period is completed, and they would be able to apply for teaching till the age of 40 years.
He said the students must have worked hard for the participation in curriculum activities, adding in comparison with other parts of the country, there are good arrangements for curriculum activities in Islamabad.
Maqsud said the education is not a uni-directional rather it is mult-directional by which the students can excel in every field of life.
He stressed that competition of any kind should be according to the rules and team spirit so that the new generation could serve the country well.
At the end, Maqsud advised the students to read books other than their course books, which would help them in their practical life.
Organising Committee President and PGGMS Principal Ms Nighat Firdaus said the education loses its importance without training, adding the curricular activities play an important role in the life of students in building confidence and in decision-making.
She said that 56 FG schools were divided into six zones, which took part in different events.
The students, who took first positions were qualified for the inter-zonal competition.
Later, Brigadier Maqsud-ul-Hassan (Retd) presented the awards to the students, who bagged top three positions in various events, including Qira't, Na'at, Urdu Speech, English Speech, Quiz, Mili Naghma, badminton, table tennis, volleyball, 100-m race, 200-m race, shot put and disket throw.
The schools, which showed excellent performance in the zones, were declared for best awards.
In Zone-A, FG Girls Model School, 6-6/2, Islamabad, Zone-B, FG Sec. School No. 10, Islamabad, Zone-C, FG Girls Model School, F-7/2; Zone-D, FG Girls Sec. School, Nailwar; Zone-E, FG Girls Model School, Humak; and in Zone-F, FG Girls Secondary School, No 12, Chak Shehzad.
The chief guest also presented the awards to the members of the organising committee, who worked hard to make this big event a success.
Those who got the awards were: Ms Nighat Firdaus, president; Mrs Rehana Paris, general secretary; Ms Sadia Naseem, finance secretary; Mrs. Naushaba Shafi, publicity secretary; Ms Shehnaz Parveen, Ms Rashida Begum and Mrs. Hameeda Nazir, members.
Later, the principal of FG Girls Model School, P-7/2, Islamabad, presented a shield to Chief Guest Brigadier Maqsud-ul-Hassan (Retd).
