Hearing of case against crew of Tasman adjourned for January 24

Judicial Magistrate, South, Mumtaz Ali Solangi on Saturday put off hearing of a case against eight member crew of grounded oil tanker Tasman Spirit till January 24 on an application by Investigation Officer (IO), Inspector Abid Ali Shah of Docks Polite Station.
The I0 moving the court under section 344 of CrPC submitted before the court that he has directed the accused crew members to ask their employer/owner of MT Tasman Spirit to provide eleven documents including classification papers pertaining to the movement of the ship on the day of alleged incident.
The IO stated that six documents were provided to him while remaining five have been dispatched to the owners of the vessel by the crew.
He requested the court to adjourn hearing till the required documents sent to Greece comes in.
Mohammed Ashraf Qazi and M. Ilyas Khan advocate appearing for the accused crew member including Captain Nicholas Papas strongly opposed the plea for adjournment.
