Railways to rehabilitate 101 engines by December

Pakistan Railways (PR) will complete the project of rehabilitation of 101 diesel electric engines by the end of current fiscal, while PR has already rehabilitated 100 diesel electric engines.
Chairman PR, Khurshid Ahmad Khan while expressing his satisfaction over progress of this project, stated that the project was completed at a cost of Rs 7,834 million.
According to a spokesman of the PR, Khurshid Ahmad Khan was briefed about railways developmental programmes at a meeting of the executive committee.
The meeting was informed that railways is importing as many as 69 locomotives from China at a cost of Rs 11,151 million, out of which eight engines have already reached.
During current fiscal, PR would spend Rs 2,300 million on import of engines including a foreign exchange component of Rs 300 million.
Besides this PR would import 175 passengers coaches from China, out of which 40 had already been imported as completely built units (CBUs) and 40 have reached in complete knocked down (CKD) shape, and work to assemble these coaches would start soon. This project would cost Rs 1,843 million.
The meeting was also informed that work was also underway to improve goods wagon and freight coaches to increase its speed.
Chairman railways also expressed his satisfaction that 55 percent of the total amount allocated for this year.
