14 Jan, 2004

Major General Syed Sabahat Hussain, chief inspector, War Wing, National Defence College, on Tuesday termed the corporate transformation of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) a success story, a role model for others to emulate, especially in the public sector.
Major General Sabahat, who headed a 95-member War Course 2003-04 team to the PSO House, said apart from this the other reason why the course participants were brought to the oil marketing giant was because the armed forces have a stake in keeping the supply lines smooth and running and the Pakistan State Oil has a very important role to play in the national logistics.
Thirdly, he said, it was at the PSO that his course participants could learn how strategic management could be successfully implemented.
Earlier, in his presentation to the War Course team, Pakistan State Oil Chairman Tariq Kirmani dwelt at length on the strategic initiatives taken by the company.
He said that PSO's transformation was achieved owing to diligent, cohesive and smart work of professionals who have been producing wonders and miracles in the era of staff competition and rapidly changing business landscape.
Kirmani shared his belief that externalities of Pakistan State Oil's prosperity should also be cascaded to all the stakeholders in the form of noble and charitable causes and social contributions all aimed at improving the state of the world, irrespective of race, gender and demographic considerations.
He cited a few recent initiatives undertaken by the company as part of its corporate social responsibility, among which is included the e-learning programme to be launched soon in collaboration with the United Nation Industrial Development Organisation.-PR
