Salvadoran coffee exports fell 53 percent in December, a third consecutive monthly fall, as the Central American producer continued to suffer from low global coffee prices, the El Salvador Coffee Council said on Friday.
The council said December coffee exports were 41,414 46-kg bags, compared to 87,279 bags in the same month last year.
According to preliminary export numbers, the value of the exports fell about 47 percent to $2.56 million, compared to $4.84 million in the year-ago period.
December is the third month in the 2003/04 coffee export season, which began October 1 and runs through to September 30.
El Salvador coffee exports fell 14 percent in the 2002/03 harvest to 1.7 million 46-kg bags.
