04 Jan, 2004

Receipts from Egypt's Suez Canal fell to $221.2 million in November from $228.3 million in October, but were up from $174.7 million in November 2002, monthly government statistics showed.
The number of vessels passing through the waterway fell to 1,311 in November from 1,338 in October, but was up from the 1,156 that passed through in November 2002, said the Cabinet Information and Decision Support Centre's monthly bulletin, posted on the Web site www.economic.idsc.gov.eg.
The canal is an important source of foreign currency for Egypt, along with remittances from Egyptians abroad, tourism and oil exports.
