PDD approves first phase of GCU uplift plan

The Planning and Development Division (PDD) has approved first phase of the development plan of the Government College University (GCU) involving Rs 66.192 million.
This was disclosed vice chancellor Dr Asif Iqbal Khan, while addressing a meeting.
During the first phase, he said that a mosque, Library and three post grade blocks for Physics, Chemistry and Botany would be constructed. He said that work on this phase will be started within next few months and will be completed by March 2005.
He said that the Chief Minister Punjab has also approved the rates for Nespak.
It will prepare Master Plan of the University in addition to designing, implementation and supervision of the construction work, he added.
He said that the University Syndicate in its third meeting held here on Monday has also approved budget estimates of Rs 150.875 million.
He said that income of university has been increased up to 33 percent. This increase has been recorded without increasing fees, he said and added that it was possible due to the introduction of ten new programs including MBA, Law and four B.Sc. courses.
The VC further said that number of female students have increased substantially particularly in postgraduate courses.
He said that Federal Hostel has been refurbished and renovated to accommodate as many as 120 girl boarders. This hostel, he said would become fully functional from January 1, 2004, he added.
