The Governor of NWFP, Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain (Retd) has summoned the provincial assembly to meet on January 1, 2004 at 11 am, for confidence vote to President General Pervez Musharraf.
The NWFP assembly comprises 124 members and the ruling religio-political alliance has the support of 69 members.
The PPP-Sherpao a strong ally of the PML (Q) in the federal government has 13 MPAs in its fold while PML (Q) has 10 members. Six are independents while ANP has left with the support of 7 MPAs by expelling them for violation of party discipline after senate polls.
Other parliamentary groups which will not vote for President Musharraf are Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarian (PPPP), Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N). Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf has also got one vote.
