Punjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Arshad Mahmood chaired a meeting of the co-ordinators of inter-university faculty boards (IUFBs) to update the curricula of six disciplines in the light of the chancellor/governor's reform agenda for higher education.
The disciplines include information technology, mass communication, pharmacy, law and biological and social sciences, according to a PU press release on Wednesday.
The first meeting of the IUFBs was held at the PU on December 23, in which nominees from the universities of Punjab participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Arshad Mahmood urged a learner-centred approach instead of the teacher-centred one, and called for converting the syllabi into curriculum, which mainly consists of syllabus, method of instruction, and assessment strategy.
He said the knowledge being transmitted should be analysed, evaluated and synthesised for its better understanding by the students.
The PU vice-chancellor informed the meeting about launching masters degree programme in agricultural management from the coming session, while the Punjab University had already started hybrid plantation.
Pucit Principal Dr M. A. Pasha suggested starting four-year BS programmes instead of BSc and BA honours programmes to bring the degree programmes at par with international standards as most participants agreed to this suggestion.
The meeting also discussed options for providing students the facility of inter-disciplinary programmes during their studies.
