The 30-year-old is set to replace New Zealander Corey Flynn, who is joining Glasgow Warriors next season.
Ghiraldini is Italy vice-captain and has played 80 times for his country, including at three World Cup tournaments.
He joined Leicester in 2014 from Celtic League outfit Treviso, having previously played in the Italian league for Petrarca and Calvisano.
