In a wide-ranging telephone interview with Reuters before the sport's showpiece begins in the sub-continent on Saturday, Lorgat said the workload for leading cricketers had reached "optimum" level.

"We always are concerned and try to monitor the volume of cricket. We talk about it all the time. We engage with each of the member boards, so it's a very topical issue for us," the International Cricket Council's (ICC) chief executive said on Monday.

"What we are obviously challenged by is the bilateral arrangements that members make among themselves.

"We strike in our events in advance and as best as we can but volume of cricket is something that challenges us and we're very mindful of it."

Lorgat said the ICC was constantly looking at the calendar and encouraged member countries to do the same. "We have reached a point where we think it is the optimum.
