ISLAMABAD: Federal and Provincial governments must take serious measures to maintain quality of higher education in the country.

This was stated by Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Chairman of National Democratic Foundation (NDF) and former Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan while addressing NDF-PSSP Joint briefing session on their letters sent to four Chief Ministers, here on Friday.

Chairman Pakistan Social Services Partnership (PSSP) Kanwar Muhammad Javed Iqbal emphasized that provision of at-least 25% of education budget towards higher education is a set international standard and being in common practice worldwide, said a news release issued here.

He highlighted that letters sent to four Chief Ministers are jointly issued by NDF and PSSP through which request has been made to all four Chief Ministers to strengthen active role of their provincial governments towards higher education and allocate 25% of education budget for it in upcoming budget for the Fiscal Year 2016-17.

He pointed out that such a provision was not made in past which reflected less interest and poor understanding of our governance system to uplift the higher education sector in the country.

The recurring grants should be transferred to the universities without any interception at Federal or Provincial HECs, Kanwar Dilshad added.

He maintained that such provisions would reflect seriousness of the governments in uplifting the higher education sector in accordance with international standards and practices.
