ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace Yasmeen Abbasey to hire a counsel in a suo-moto case.

It may be mentioned that the Chief Justice of Pakistan on May 11 took a suo moto notice for issuing notice to the Lahore High Court senior judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah by the Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace.

The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim heard the case.

During the course of proceedings, Yasmin Abbasey appeared before the bench and stated that the Lahore High Court was continuously intervening in the affairs of the Ombudsperson's Office by issuing stay orders against it orders.

She said no court had the authority to intervene in the affairs of Ombudsperson Office according to law.

Justice Amir Hani asked that whether the Ombudsperson's decision could not be challenged in the Supreme Court or high courts. On which Yasmin Abbasey replied that it could only be challenged before the President.

Ysamin Abbasey requested for time for hiring a counsel. The case was adjourned till second week of June.
