Mobile phone imports up 6.25pc in 9 months

ISLAMABAD: The import of mobile phones into the country witnessed an increase of 6.25 per cent in first nine months (July-March) of the year 2015-16 as compared to same period of last year.

The mobile phone imports during first nine months of current fiscal year rose to US $573.284 million from $539.581 million in the same period of last year.

According to the latest data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the mobile phone imports also increased by 2.92 per cent and 19.05 per cent in March, 2016 as compared to March, 2015 and February, 2016 respectively.

The imports in March, 2016 increased to $76.094 million from $73.932 million in March, 2015 and $63.915 million in February, 2016.

Similarly the overall telecom imports decreased by 2.18 per cent as it went down from $1.071 billion in July-March 2014-15 to $1.047 billion in same period of current fiscal year.

On month-on-month basis the telecom imports also decreased by 3.01 per cent to $122.201 million in March, 2016 from $125.995 million in February, 2016.

The telecom imports on year-on-year basis however increased by 12.5 percent from $108.62 million in March, 2015 to $122.201 million in March this year.
